ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has verified 95.026 million computeri
sed national identity cards (CNICs) during the ongoing CNIC re-verification drive.
During a meeting of the heads of departments of the Interior Ministry on Wednesday, Interior Minister Chaudhry
Nisar Ali Khan was informed that during the drive,
3,630 ‘aliens’ have voluntarily returned their CNICs. Over 66,000 intruders have been identified so far as a result of the 14 million texts se
nt by NADRA to family heads across Pakistan.
The Interior Ministry’s special secretary, NADRA chairman, Immigration and Passports director general, Islamabad inspector general of police and the deputy commissioner of the federal capital were present on the occasion. Expressing satisfaction over the drive and the overwhelming response received from the public,
Nisar directed NADRA to put in place a permanent mechanism for re-verification of CNICs.
The minister directed the Immigration and Passport Directorate and NADRA to dispatch teams for monitoring expatriates and ensuring their facilitation abroad. He also directed the Immigration and Passports director general to remove flaws from the online passport system currently being faced by expatriates.
He directed the FIA to come up
with a strategy for arresting proclaimed offenders (POs). The FIA briefed the minister that it had arrested 439 POs while ICT police had arrested over 3,000 POs. The minister expressed satisfaction over the drive initiated to nab POs and directed FIA, ICT police and NADRA to work in close coordination for the blockage of the CNICs of POs to ensure their speedy arrests.
Nisar also directed the ICT administration for complete elimination of agent mafia in its jurisdiction and to take action against food adulterators and professional beggars. The ICT police briefed the minister over law and order situation in the federal capital, giving a comparative analysis of crime rate
with the past year.
Nisar was informed that the deadline for 73 new passport offices was February 2017, after which every district would have a passport office. staff
